Yura, a supplier of wiring harnesses for Hyundia and Kia, will build its first plant in the US in Dothan, Alabama.

Dothan is about 105 miles from Hyundai’s US plant in Montgomery, Alabama, and 135 miles from Kia’s factory in West Point, Georgia.

Local paper the Dothan Eagle said on its website the plant initially would employ 50-70 people but had potential for more growth.

Yura’s Korean headquarters is located in Cheongju. It also has a research and development centre, two plants, two distribution centres and a technical research institute in Korea. Overseas, it has four locations in China, three in Serbia, two in Slovakia, and one each in Vietnam, Tunisia, and Russia.

Yura Corporation, first known as Yura Tech, has been around since 1992 and changed its name to Sewon ECS in 1995. It merged with the wiring harness business unit of Kia Electronics in September 1999, the paper reported.
