Former Iveco trucks R&D boss Gian Maria Olivetti has been appointed chief technology officer for powertrain at Michigan-based Federal-Mogul.

Olivetti, who joined the Southfield company in 2007, will oversee global coordination of all engineering, research and product development activities. He will also serve as the company’s chief technical spokesman at industry and professional association events. He will report directly to Rainer Jueckstock, co-CEO, Federal-Mogul and CEO powertrain segment. 

Olivetti was previously vice president, R&D, for pistons, rings and liners where he managed development of new technologies. He joined Federal-Mogul from the Fiat group where he had served most recently as executive director with worldwide engines and transmissions R&D responsibility for Iveco.

He began his career at bearing maker SKF as a quality manager.
