Industry sources say that the Ford-Tata deal which will transfer ownership of Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford to Tata could be signed as early as next week.

The deal should also see Ford supply engines to both brands over the next five to ten years, according to those with knowledge of the deal.

While the timing of the signing could slip, March 5 or 6 are said to be the dates that everyone involved in the negotiations is working towards.

Automotive News cited a Ford ‘insider’ who said the announcement was being delayed in order not to overshadow the introduction of an updated Ford Fiesta at the Geneva Show next week.

Negotiations centre on sensititive vendor and supplier agreements between Ford and the two marques. These cover areas ranging from engine supply, information technology, intellectual property and the two brands’ financial services.

Tata is expected to agree to engine supply agreements.

According to sources Tata Motors is also negotiating 15 to 20 long-term supply pacts with Ford.

The deal is expected to cost Tata Motors US$2bn.

It is likely that Tata Motors will also sign a three-way heads of agreement (HoA) with Ford and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) labour unions.
