General Motors (GM) is recalling 40,859 units of the Chevrolet Cobalt and its Pontiac G5 variants from the 2007 to 2009 model years as well as the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion.

The affected vehicles have plastic parts in the fuel pump which could crack, resulting in a leak that could lead to a fire, the Detroit Free Press said. There have been no reports of fires or injuries yet.

The recall affects vehicles sold or currently registered in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada or Texas while owners in Arkansas and Oklahoma are also included in the recall of the 2009 Cobalt and G5.

GM said the problem was more common in warm-weather states.
