US: GM recalls 686,287 vehicles

General Motors (GM) is recalling 686,287 vehicles in the US for power tailgate problems.

They are 2008-2012 Buick Enclaves made 3 January 2007 to 29 February 2012, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Traverse made 6 July 2008 to 29 February 2012, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia made 15 September 2006 to 29 February 2012 and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles made 17 August 2006 to 18 March 2010.

Affected vehicles, with the power liftgate option, have gas struts that hold the gate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open gate may fall suddenly.

Dealers will update software for the power liftgate actuator motor control unit so that the motor will prevent the rapid closing of the liftgate.
