Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, hit at the weekend with a record recall-related fine, is recalling Ram trucks because an airbag could inflate unexpectedly.

The affected vehicles are 2012-2014 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks made between 18 January 2011 and 7 October 2014 and equipped with the electronic vehicle information centre option.

These models have a steering wheel wiring harness that may rub against the driver air bag module retainer spring causing an electrical short that could cause the driver’s front air bag to unexpectedly deploy.

Dealers will inspect, repair as necessary, and secure the steering wheel wiring harness. Protective caps will also be added to the air bag retainer spring ends. The recall is expected to start on 19 September.
