Bosch expects diesel-powered engines to triple their share of the US light vehicle market within a decade thanks to their better fuel efficiency, it told Reuters.
“We expect diesel’s share of passenger cars and light trucks to rise from 5% now to around 15% by 2015,” Bosch’s chief for the Americas, Peter Marks, said in Detroit, according to a company statement cited by the news agency on Friday.
Reuters noted that Bosch is expanding its US manufacturing capacity for diesel fuel injection systems and also saw good growth in its electronic stability controls that help prevent rollovers.
These so-called ESP devices were set to equip 70% of new vehicles in four years, double the current rate, Marks reportedly said.
Eager to lessen its reliance on the European automotive market, Bosch aims to generate a quarter of sales in the Americas by 2015, up from 19% now, the report added.
