Tier One supplier Aisin World Corp of America (AWA), a worldwide has set up Aisin Technical Center of America to develop products for North, Central and South America.
ATC-A, as it is known internally, will be a self-sufficient localised developer using processes from parent company Aisin Seiki in Japan, one of whose directors, Tsuneo Uchimoto, will be the new unit’s first president.
“While we’ve always had an R&D presence in the United States, most of our automotive components development has come from Aisin Seiki in Japan, with parts modification done here to conform with local needs,” a spokesman said.
Most of the 70 employees are engineers and product design specialists, who work on automotive body, drivetrain, engine, chassis and electronics components. A permanent home for the new company is currently under study.
