The best November on record and private registrations accounting for 45% of the
market have put a smile on the face of Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders
chief executive Christopher McGowan.
"The figures show that consumer confidence has returned and car buyers
are benefiting from stronger competition in the UK," he said.
The Ford Focus was top-selling model for the seventh month in a row while the
Fiesta moved up to third, behind Vauxhall’s Astra, as small cars once again
made a strong impression on the market – half of November’s Top 10 were
superminis.
Imports took a 72.5% market share with cars from Germany, Italy and Eastern
Europe featuring strongly.
