Ford’s
new Mondeo is the star of what is believed to be the world’s largest advertising
poster in central England.
The gigantic poster carrying the slogan ‘Built to Lead’, measures 132 metres
long and 23.7 metres high and covers a surface area equivalent to one and a
half acres. Printed on PVC and mounted on scaffolding, the poster spans one
side of the historic Fort Dunlop building adjacent to the M6 motorway in the
Midlands city of Birmingham, Britain’s second-largest metropolis.
The building, which is seen by thousands of motorists every day, was formally
the headquarters of the Dunlop rubber company and is now undergoing extensive
redevelopment. The Ford banner will be constructed over the next three weeks
and will remain in place for six months.
Harry Torrance, commercial director of industry specialists Mega Profile, who
are installing the giant poster, said: "We know it is the largest advertising
poster in Europe and possibly the world, but we are waiting for confirmation
of that from the Guinness Book of Records."
