A spokesman for Lotus has confirmed that the company has written to its network of European dealers to serve a two-year notice period of contract termination.

The contracts will terminate in July 2012.

The shake-up to the European dealer network (which accounts for around 70 of the 150-strong worldwide network) is part of Group Lotus boss Dany Bahar’s five-year business plan for the company.

It is understood that dealers will have the opportunity to apply for a new contract, but the move sends a clear message that Lotus is looking closely at its distribution and aftersales network as it plans to raise volume, add product and position the brand in higher margin territory.

Lotus is planning to reveal new product plans at the Paris Motor Show in September.
