Land Rover reportedly will produce the Defender until some time in 2016 due to strong demand.

Production  was scheduled to end in December. However, an employee at the Solihull plant, which the vehicle is produced, said: “It is going to be extended until at least the end of February (2016). Although I’ve been told that February is the definite cut-off date, someone else has said it could possibly go on until April (2016).”

The employee said there had been a “glut of orders” leading to the production extension, according to the Birmingham Post.

The long running model is for the chop because it does not meet US safety regulations and soon won’t meet meet emissions regulations in many other markets.
