Cash-strapped GM has staged a spectacular world premiere for its new Vauxhall/Opel Corsa model ahead of the British International Motor Show (BIMS) in London.

The car was lifted by helicopter down the River Thames and alongside over 1,000 invited ‘VIP’ guests at the terrace of the ‘Old Billingsgate’ (once London’s meat market).

The new Corsa was showcased in what the BIMS press release described as ‘a booty-shaking collaboration with the worldwide ambassador of dancehall, Sean Paul, who flew in especially from his European tour for this one-stop gig.’

GM Europe marketing chief Alain Visser told journalists at the event that GM is looking for European sales of 375,000 units of the Corsa in 2007, around 25% ahead of this year’s Corsa sales level.
