The expansion of the UK sales network for smart, the radically styled two-seater city car from DaimlerChrysler, will continue in 2002 with the appointment of five new sales centres, it was announced today.

Five existing Mercedes-Benz dealers will take on the smart franchise: Drayton of Wolverhampton, Westwood Garage in Blackburn, Road Range in Liverpool, Mercedes-Benz of Exeter (City West Country) and John R Weir in Aberdeen.

This takes the total UK smart franchise network to 23 sites, plus five DaimlerChrysler UK wholly owned sales centres at Piccadilly (London), Chiswick, Milton Keynes, Birmingham and Manchester.

New smart franchised sales centres will be opening soon in Ipswich, Cambridge and Newcastle.

The smart network expansion follows last year’s launch of right-hand drive models in the UK. By the end of 2002, it is planned that the smart sales network will consist of between 30 and 40 sites.
