UK commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturing grew by a quarter in November 2015 as the sector’s recovery continued. Big gains were made in export production with volumes up 79.1% in the month. According to the SMMT, production of vans and trucks rose 24.6% year on year to 8,813 units last month.
Production for export grew a huge 79.1% to 5,131 following growing demand in Europe while output for the UK fell 12.5% to 3,682. Year to date, domestic market production was up 34% to 44,292 with export model output up 37.3% to 43,922. Overall sector output rose 35.6% to 88,214 in the first 11 months of the year.
SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “The recovery in UK CV manufacturing this year has been good to see, with consistently strong growth in almost every month. November’s performance was driven principally by production for export, underlining the importance of the EU as the sector’s key overseas market.”
