The executive who has twice headed Chrysler’s UK operations – with a post in China in between – is to head the Volkswagen UK commercial vehicles unit.

Simon Elliott has been named director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles here, taking over from Robert Hazelwood who is now director of Skoda UK.

Elliott was previously managing director of Chrysler UK, and president and CEO of Chrysler’s China operations before that, having moved there from the top job in the UK.

He actually began his career at Volkswagen in vehicle logistics and sales before being promoted to a variety of sales and marketing roles. He has also worked at Toyota GB and was sales director at Toyota’s European HQ in Belgium.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles achieved its eighth consecutive year of growth last year with record UK sales of 30,427. Development continued this year with the launch of a new range of panel vans and passenger carriers – the Caddy Maxi and Caddy Maxi Life.

“Simon brings a wealth of experience and I am very pleased to welcome him back to the Volkswagen Group,” said MD Robin Woolcock.
