Marconi Applied Technologies has increased production capacity at its Lincoln, England site to meet a steady increase in demand for a graded gap Gunn diode used in automotive adaptive cruise control (ACC) systems.

Production has increased 700 percent over the past six months, indicating a growing market for ACC as vehicle manufacturers increasingly offer advanced technology options on their top-of-range vehicles.

The Gunn diode provides the RF power for radar adaptive cruise control systems and its graded gap structure, claimed to be unique to Applied Technologies, is said to deliver excellent frequency stability against temperature, low noise characteristics, high reliability with a long lifetime and to work in a wide range of temperatures.
