The MAN truck-manufacturing group has inaugurated a revamped manufacturing plant in Ankara. The revamped facility has reportedly doubled MAN’s Turkish production capacity.
In 2001 MAN produced a total of 1,175 commercial vehicles (494 trucks, 681 buses) and is now estimated to have an annual production capacity of around 4,000 units. According to OSD data, MAN exported 672 units of its Turkish production in 2001. Its Ankara plant started production in Turkey in 1966.
The Turkish economy and vehicle market are in the grip of an extremely serious recession, but prospects for demand are widely believed to be improving from the current depleted base.
