Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation has reported a slight year-on-year decline in global sales to 926,688 units in June 2026, including its Lexus and Daihatsu brand. Sales in Japan rose by almost 10% to 194,295 units, while overseas sales fell by 2.5% to 732,393 units, with deliveries affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and rising competition in global markets.

In the first six months of the year, the group’s global sales fell by 2.3% to 5,362,598 units, with sales in Japan rising by 5.3% to 1,085,752 units, while overseas sales fell by 4.1% to 4,276,846 units. The data do not include sales by Japanese truck maker Hino, which was spun off from the group at the end of March 2026.

Global sales of Toyota- and Lexus-branded vehicles combined fell by 2.9% to 5,008,898 units year-to-date, with sales in Japan rising by 4.7% to 804,721 units, while overseas sales fell by 4.7% to 4,204,177 units. Sales in North America rose by just under 1% to 1,452,343 units in this period, with sales in the US rising slightly to 1,030,598 units, while deliveries in Latin America (excluding Mexico) fell by 5.8% to 230,384 units. In Asia, excluding Japan, sales fell by 7% to 1,436,054 units, reflecting mainly a 17% plunge in China to 694,670 units. In Europe, volumes were slightly higher at 612,271 units.

Toyota and Lexus reported a 9.1% rise in global sales of electrified vehicles to 2,707,302 units in the first six months of 2026, accounting for over 54% of total sales. Global sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose by 135% to 193,172 units, most of which were sold overseas, while sales of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) rose by 4.4% to 2,330,877 units.

Daihatsu’s global sales increased by 7.4% to 353,700 units year-to-date, with sales in Japan growing by 7.1% to 281,031 units, while overseas sales increased by 8.3% to 72,669 units.
