Honda Automobile (Thailand) started operations on December 1, say Asian news sources
(2/12/00).

The company – the result of the amalgamation of Honda Cars Manufacturing
(Thailand) and Honda Cars (Thailand) – is capitalised at 5.46 billion baht
($US124.6 million) and has taken over all assets, employees and operational
responsibilities of its predecessors.

Ownership of the company is shared between Honda Motor Co. of Japan (75.9%),
Asian Honda Motor, the Bangkok-based regional HQ office (15.4%), Thailand`s
Crown Property Bureau (4.1%) and private Thai investors (4.6%).

The company has already undertaken similar integrations in both Indonesia and
in the Philippines with Malaysia next in line where DRB-Oriental-Honda –
the recently negotiated joint venture – is preparing to start local production.
