Tesla reportedly has issued invitations to a US unveiling of its long awaited electric truck.

The vehicle, expected to use similar drivetrain technology to the Tesla cars, will be unveiled in Hawthorne, California, on 16 November, media reports said.

It had been due to be launched earlier but this was postponed as the automaker grappled with production problems with its latest Model 3 car and diverted battery production to Puerto Rico to help deal with electricity supply problems following recent hurricane devastation.

The Daimler and Volkswagen group are among rival truckmakers planning all electric trucks, initially for urban deliveries. The BMW group is already using a small trial fleet in Munich.

Tesla last week announced a net loss of US$619.4m ($3.70 a share) for the third quarter to 30 September, compared with a $21.9m profit (14 cents) in Q3 2016. Revenue was up 30% to US$2.98bn.
