Tata Motors has opened two R&D facilities in Pune, India to further its development of hydrogen ICEs and hydrogen storage and dispending technology.
The facilities comprise an engine test cell and associated infrastructure.
Executive director Girish Wagh said in a statement: “We believe hydrogen to be the fuel of the future, especially for commercial vehicles. With the opening of this dedicated R&D facility to develop and [localise] hydrogen propulsion technology, we are entering a new era of technological innovation.”
At Auto Expo 2023, Tata Motors showed its flagship Prima heavy truck with a hydrogen combustion enginw and the other with a hydrogen fuel cell plus a hydrogen fuel cell bus.
In 2022, the automaker signed a memorandum of understanding with Cummins to collaborate on design and development of hydrogen ICEs and fuel cell systems.
