Tata Motors has announced a ramp-up of output at its Sanand car manufacturing plant, taking it to full capacity utilisation at around 150,000 units per annum.
The plant has so far rolled out over 450,000 units, since inception in 2010, and Tata says it is among its fastest expanding plants. It says it is currently mapping out its modular architecture plans and will distribute its passenger vehicle (PV) manufacturing between Pune and Sanand to meet its product expansion plans.

The Sanand plant also achieved its highest ever monthly production of 11,055 units in June 2018.
Tata aims for the Sanand plant to contribute around 60% of its overall PV production (it makes the Tiago and Tigor models).
With a flexible assembly line, the plant manufactures Nano (low volume and close to being discontinued), Tiago & Tigor models spread across 21 variants with 150 vehicle combinations. It is also producing engines – Revotron 1.2L – Petrol (Manual & Auto Transmission), Revotorq 1.05L – Diesel, 624 CC, MPFI – Petrol (Manual & Auto Transmission) and 1.2 NGTC – Petrol (Manual & Auto Transmission).
The Sanand plant has produced the first electric passenger vehicle for commercial use in the form of Tigor EV.
Being the youngest plant of Tata Motors, the facility ‘leverages technology with over 190 robots, with high levels of automation to increase productivity across processes’. In the last two years, the number of employees has increased by 80% to 4,500.
