New vehicle sales in Taiwan increased by 2.8% to an estimated 39,100 units in March from 38,042 units a year earlier, according to local reports citing company data.

First quarter sales were up by 5.9% to an estimated 114,001 units compared with 107,687 units in the same period of last year.

Toyota, Lexus and Hino distributor Hotai Motor Company reported 10,202 unit sales in March and 32,005 in the first quarter of the year.

Lexus enjoyed strong demand for its NX model range last month, with sales hitting 1,146 units, and is set to further strengthen its position in the luxury SUV segment with the launch of the UX range later this year.

Mitsubishi distributor China Motor Corporation reported 4,683 sales last month and 13,465 units in the first quarter of the year, followed by Honda which saw its sales rise by over 28% to 3,812 units in March on strong demand for its SUVs. Honda's first quarter sales amounted to 10,216 units.
