A report in Swedish business daily Dagens Industri says that officials from one of the Chinese vehile makers believed to be interested in buying Volvo Cars from Ford will next week visit Volvo Cars’ HQ.


According to the report officials from either Changan, Dongfeng or Geely will visit Volvo’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden and its plant in Ghent, Belgium.


The newspaper said a Chinese buyer could be willing to pay between 15 and 20 billion Swedish kronor for Volvo Cars.


At the end of March Ford told Volvo employees it has had “preliminary discussions with a number of interested parties” over the possible sale of the Swedish auto unit.


“We didn’t give an indication of the number or geographic location,” London-based John Gardiner told just-auto.

Swedish reports said interested Chinese parties include Chery Automobile, Dongfeng Motor and Chongqing Changan Automobile while the Wall Street Journal, citing two Geely informants and one Ford source, said bidders also included China’s Geely and a European investor consortium. The Ford source said there were “three or more” bidders in total.
