Lars Westerberg, chairman of Autoliv has said he wants to resign from the board after 13 years and has asked it find a successor as soon as possible.

He will remain until a new chairman has been elected to maintain continuity and ensure a smooth transition.

The next scheduled meeting of the board will take place on 20 December.

Westerberg became president and CEO of Autoliv in February 1999 and was elected chairman in April 2007.

Under his tenure, the company’s sales have more than doubled from US$3.5bn in 1998 to over $8bn expected this year.
