Sales of imported cars in South Korea in February rose 30% from a year ago to 1,672 units, due to the introduction of more new models and aggressive promotions, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association, or KAIDA, said on Thursday, according to Dow Jones.
February sales were up 3.7% from January’s 1,613 units, the report added.
According to Dow Jones, Toyota’s Lexus ES330 was the best-selling foreign car model in February, with 212 units sold, followed by the larger Lexus LS430 and BMW’s recently redesigned 520.
Dow Jones noted that South Korean car sales rose 18% year on year in February as exports continued to improve, but domestic sales remained sluggish with no signs of recovery in the near term, according to data released on Tuesday by the country’s five car makers.
