Goodyear is to lay off 400 workers at its Port Elizabeth plant in South Africa
this week.

According to local reports, the decision by Goodyear – which has a workforce
in South Africa of around 2,000 – is part of a restructuring programme.

Slack border controls on cut-price tyre imports are reported to be making both
general economic and marketing conditions for tyre manufacturers difficult within
the country.
