German automotive supplier Schaeffler and software company Qorix have partnered to develop and market platform technologies for software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and intelligent machines.
The collaboration brings together Schaeffler’s vehicle hardware, cross-domain controller solutions, and system-integration experience with Qorix’s middleware and central-computing platform technologies.

The companies will initially focus on automotive systems, while identifying potential uses in robotics and industrial automation.
Schaeffler e-mobility CEO Thomas Stierle said: “Qorix complements this foundation with production-ready middleware and a strong open-source approach, enabling us to bring scalable solutions to market faster and more efficiently.”
According to the companies, the agreement responds to the automotive sector’s shift from architectures using multiple distributed electronic control units towards systems centred on high-performance computing platforms.
This change requires software layers supporting standardised communication, security, scalability, and functional safety.
Schaeffler will provide expertise in integrating safety-critical driving and comfort functions.
Qorix will supply its Qorix Performance middleware, including deterministic communication, lifecycle management, and functional safety processes.
Both companies are participants in the Eclipse S-CORE open-source project, which provides a shared software framework for SDVs.
They plan to use that framework to enable software reuse across vehicle generations and customer programmes, while reducing integration work and development time.
The partners plan to introduce their first jointly developed solutions in customer projects.
As the partnership progresses, they also intend to use the platform technologies in robotics and industrial automation.
Qorix CEO Markus Schupfner added: “With Schaeffler as a strategic partner, we are accelerating exactly what drives us: bringing production-ready, open-source-based software platforms to market faster.”
In August, Schaeffler and Chinese battery giant CATL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deepen their collaboration in the field of e-mobility.
