SAIC Group and Chinese smartphone provider Oppo have signed a cooperation agreement to integrate cell (mobile) phones into cars.

The two will collaborate to add user interaction applications to vehicles and conduct joint R&D on intelligent cockpits, according to a statement cited by

SAIC introduced SOA – Service-Oriented Architecture last April and the two companies will also consider R&D of SOA application services and user interaction.

SOA is an operation platform built for developers with the logic of “service for users”, an app store for cars, in simple terms.

SAIC and Oppo will collaborate on SOA to create a “multi-scene cross-device application service”, according to the report.

An Oppo application service framework will be added to the car, and the two companies’ developer platforms will be integrated.

The technology should appear in both SAIC brand vehicles as well as joint venture brand products (eg GM, VW), SAIC said.

Media reports in late April had said Oppo was preparing car technology.

It has 3,000 patents covering car networking, communication, video and image processing and device charging.
