Nissan plans to start series production at its car assembly plant in St Petersburg at the end of May.

Maxim Sokolov, chairman of the city government’s investments and strategic projects department, told reporters that the plant is currently in test mode and ready to begin full operations.

Construction of the plant started in July 2007. The plant is expected to produce Nissan Teana and Nissan X-Trail vehicles at the rate of 50,000 units a year.
