General Motors has suspended car assembly operations at its St. Petersburg, Russia, plant for the third time this year, and plans a fourth shutdown.
According to WardsAuto.com, as the country’s vehicle sales slump continued, GM halted production last Monday (29 September) and will resume on Friday (3 October), followed by another closing from 10 to 27 October.
The report said the automaker had halted Opel Astra and Chevrolet Cruze assembly from 24 February to 28 March and from 9-20 June. There was also a scheduled summer shutdown for holidays and maintenance.
