
The downturn in the Russian market has forced General Motors to halt production at its St Petersburg plant for two months.
The company temporarily suspended wholesale deliveries to dealers in December, citing the volatility of the ruble exchange rate.
A media report noted that, under three years ago, Opel planned a US1bn spend on Russian production but made only 37,000 vehicles at the St. Petersburg factory in 2014.
An Opel spokesman told the Wall Street Journal production would halt from 23 March to 15 May while the automaker reviewed its plans for the region.
GM sells Cadillac, Chevrolet and Opel models in Russia.
