Interfax reports that Ford plans to open its new factory at Vsevolozhsk near St Petersburg on July 9. Ford originally planned to open the plant at the beginning of the year, but the timetable slipped.

The agency also said that sales of the Ford Focus model built at the plant will start in July too. The plant is expected to produce around 4,000 units this year.

Ford has invested around $150 million in the site and aims to build its production capacity up to 25,000 units a year over the long term.

The Russian car market is estimated at a little in excess of a million units per annum and is expected to grow to 1.3-1.5 million units over the next five years.
