Ford has invested about US$700m in a car plant and the development of its dealership chain in Russia, Ford Europe CEO John Fleming said during a meeting with Russian industry and trade minister Viktor Khristenko, according to the ministry’s press office.

Ford launched its Russian plant in the Leningrad Region town of Vsevolozhsk in 2002 and currently assembles Focus and Mondeo models there.

It sold 186,828 cars in Russia last year but January-May sales this year were down 43% year on year.
