AvtoVAZ is developing a technology for mass production of robots for Russian industry.
According to an Itar-Tass report, the work is proceeding under an innovation project that calls for making domestically-produced universal robots for mass automated production operations in civilian and machine-building sectors.
AvtoVAZ won the government’s tender together with the Moscow State Technological University Stankin. The project provides for the creation of a variety of robots with a lifting capacity from 15 to 350 kilograms.
AvtoVAZ plans to launch mass production within the next three years and make up to 1,000 robots a year.
A design group set up under the project has already started designing robot models.
AvtoVAZ process equipment division Director Vladimir Serebrenny says the designers are facing a challenge of creating both mechanical manipulators and small controls.
“This is an innovative and technically complex project that is very important for AvtoVAZ,” he said.
“Our participation in the state programme will help us maintain and develop up-to-date technologies. We plan to continue to participate in federal programmes,” the official said.
