New vehicle sales in the Philippines rose by 14.8% to 14,764 units in September, from 12,857 units a year earlier, according to data released jointly by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association, Inc.
Passenger car sales increased by close to 34% to 5,136 units compared with 3,844 units a year earlier, while commercial vehicle sales increased by 6.8% to 9,628 units.
The data excludes non-affiliated brands, such as Hyundai, Chevrolet and Subaru, which together typically account for 15% of the market.
In the first nine months of the year, sales rose by 17.7% to 131,381 units, from 111,582 units in the same period of last year. Passenger car sales were up by 29.1% at 43,359 units, while commercial vehicle sales rose by 12.9% to 88,022 units.
