TomTom said it would supply BMW Group with Live TomTom Traffic information, online routing and electric vehicle (EV) services for BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles.

The deal followed an extensive testing programme that began last April.

Traffic provides drivers with live updates on upcoming traffic and delays. Online routing technology uses cloud-based processing power to quickly send alternative routes to the navigation system in the vehicle.

EV service provides drivers with information on the distance that their vehicle can travel before running out of charge and plans the most efficient route to a charging point on their journey which is suitable for their vehicle and is actually available at the right time.

Antoine Saucier, managing director TomTom Automotive, said: "TomTom's vision is a safe, connected and autonomous world, free of congestion and emissions. The introduction of TomTom Live Traffic, Online Routing and Electric Vehicle Services into BMW vehicles is a huge step forwards to achieve this goal."
