Pakistan’s Suzuki assembler, which has yet to see any impact on sales after floods, has planned to increase production by 12% in calendar 2011. Pak Suzuki Motor Company, with a market share of over 50%, last week told suppliers its production target was 90,000 vehicles in 2011.

Suppliers who attended the meeting said the company had planned to produce 80,484 units in 2010 with 23,890 Mehrans, 14,655 Ravis, 13,265 Bolans, 12,801 Cultus, 11,275 Altos, 3,950 Swifts and 648 Lianas.

In first three quarters (Jan-Sept) of 2010, actual production of Suzuki vehicles totalled 57,889 units, Plus News reported.

Vendors were told target production for October-December 2010 was 22,584 units.

Floods had not made any big impact on sales so far and the company had a sizable number of advance orders.

Senior general manager marketing Ashfaq Hussain said that the company received good orders from the non-flood areas which nullified the slight negative impact of sales in flood affected areas.

However, he said the company was now facing a serious problem of daily eight-hour power outages, which has so far caused productivity loss of 10-15 % since 22 October.

He added that PSMCL was now trying to adjust working hours to meet the demand from buyers. “In case the load shedding persists the company is likely to produce a total of 7,000 vehicles in November as compared to 8,000 units in October,” he added.

Overall car sales has already risen 12% to 30,030 units in July-September 2010 from 26,812 units in the same period of last year.
