Registration of 14,359 new vehicles in November were down 1.6% year on year but reflected a "steady as she goes market" in New Zealand, according to the Motor Industry Association.

Year to date sales were up 1.4% to 150,393. Of those, 105,333 were passenger cars.

Toyota retained market lead with a 22% share (3,099 units) followed by Ford (10%; 1,437) and Holden also with 10% market share (1,397). 

Toyota also topped passenger and SUV registrations with 22% share of the market (2,076), followed by Holden with 10% (965) and Hyundai with 9% market share (877).

In the commercial sector, Ford took out the top spot with 22% market share (1,064) followed by Toyota with 21% (1,023) and Mitsubishi third with 10% market share (487).

The Ford Ranger regained its perch as top commercial model for November and the top overall model for the month with 944 units followed by the Toyota Hilux with 741 units and the Toyota Corolla with 739 units. Year to date the Ranger strengthened its hold on the top model spot with 9,300 units followed by the Hilux (7,499) and Corolla (6,568).

The top three segments for the month were SUV medium, retaining its lead with 16% market share, followed by Pick Up/Chassis 4×4 also with 16% and the SUV compact with 13%.
