Nissan Formula E Team has formed a four-year partnership with Saudi Arabian automotive services company Petromin to drive electric mobility adoption in the Middle East.

The partnership will primarily focus on Petromin’s EV charging subsidiary, Electromin.

It builds on the existing relationship between Nissan and Petromin, particularly through Petromin Nissan, a key innovation partner in past Diriyah races.

Under the latest alliance, Electromin’s branding will be featured on Nissan’s e-4ORCE 05 race cars, as well as on team apparel and marketing materials.

Nissan debuted in all-electric racing during Season 5 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship (2018/19), becoming the first and only Japanese manufacturer in the series.

In pursuit of its 2050 carbon neutrality goal, Nissan plans to electrify all new vehicle models in key markets by the early 2030s.

The automaker’s strategy includes transferring knowledge and technology from the racetrack to road vehicles, aiming to enhance the EV experience for customers.

Nissan Formula E Team managing director and team principal Tommaso Volpe said: “I am delighted to announce the partnership between Nissan Formula E Team, Petromin and Electromin.

“It shows how important it is for Nissan to integrate its Formula E project into the broader strategic plan, not just for promotion of our Ambition 2030 electrification plan, but also to leverage existing relationships within the group.

“Electromin’s parent company, Petromin Corporation, is one of our authorised Nissan dealers in Saudi Arabia, so it’s vital for us to work closely together, creating synergies which promote the Nissan brand both in the region and worldwide.”

Petromin group CEO Kalyana Sivagnanam said: “As the pioneers of electric mobility in Saudi Arabia through Electromin, we see this partnership as a key step in accelerating the adoption of EV technology across the region.

“Additionally, as the official partner of Nissan Motor Corporation in the Kingdom, this partnership reinforces our long-standing relationship with Nissan and strengthens our shared vision for the future of automotive excellence.”

Nissan’s tie up with Petromin follows its recent announcement to introduce bi-directional charging technology in the UK, starting in 2026, before expanding to other European markets.

This vehicle to grid technology will allow EV owners to utilise their car batteries for home power supply or to sell energy back to the grid.
