Nemak, which specialises in innovative lightweighting solutions for the automotive industry worldwide, has officially opened a new high-pressure die casting (HPDC) plant located in Monterrey, Mexico.
The new plant’s HPDC technology will support the production of aluminium automotive components, primarily engine blocks, transmission cases, and structural components. Additionally, the plant will feature a machining centre for processing these components.
Total spend was US$200m, with series production to begin in the first half of this the year.
Nemak employs about 21,000 people at 36 facilities worldwide and generated revenues of US$4.3bn in 2016.
In Mexico, it recently received double honours from the National Technology and Innovation Award (PNTi) which focuses on supporting the development of businesses and other organisations through the recognition, promotion, and facilitation of successful technology and innovation management processes.
The supplier won in Process Innovation and Product Innovation categories.
