Mitsubishi Motors began exporting the Mitsubishi Xpander compact MPV from Indonesia to the Philippines this month after its successful launch at the Manila International Auto Show in April.
By the end of April, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines had received 3,800 pre-paid orders for the model and deliveries to customers will begin on 28 May.
Mitsubishi stated previously it had received orders for 21,000 Xpanders from its Philippine distributor so far and plans to export 30,000 units of the model to that country this year.
The Xpander has enjoyed huge success in Indonesia since its launch last July, having displaced the Toyota Avanza as the country's best-selling vehicle model with more than 29,000 sales in the first four months of 2018.
The Xpander is being rolled out across South-East Asia, with sales soon to start in Thailand and Vietnam. A total of 6,000 units are slated for export to Thailand this year and 1,000 to Vietnam. The company will also export the model to markets in the Middle East and Africa.
