Volkswagen is on track set a new production record in Mexico this year, InfoLatina reports, but it won’t be thanks to sales of its traditional sedan, the Beetle, which has lost ground in the local market against compact models produced by rival automakers.

During the first 10 months of the year, Volkswagen exported 288,193 vehicles from Mexico, equivalent to 51% of the local subsidiary’s total sales for the period and 10% up from the same period a year ago.

Volkswagen of Mexico exports its Jetta (Bora), New Beetle and Golf Cabrio models to the United States. The company’s US sales in the January-October period were up 15% from the same period last year.
