MediaTek and NVIDIA have partnered to develop a new generation of automotive chips to provide advanced in-vehicle cabin solutions for software-defined vehicles.

Fabless semiconductor company, MediaTek will develop SOCs (system on chips) utilising a Nvidia graphic processing unit (GPU) chiplet, incorporating advanced AI and graphics IP.

To ensure high-speed and efficient communication, a cutting-edge chiplet interconnect technology will be employed, the companies say.

Through this collaboration, technology will be employed to power vehicle infotainment systems. These systems, the companies say, will enable the streaming of video or games, as well as facilitate interaction with drivers using AI.

MediaTek’s smart cabin solutions are set to utilise various software technologies from Nvidia such as Drive OS, Drive IX, Cuda and TensorRT.

These technologies will enable the implementation of a comprehensive suite of AI functions for cabins integrating high-level graphics, AI capabilities, and safety and security features.

“AI and accelerated computing are fuelling the transformation of the entire auto industry,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia. “The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading SoC and Nvidia’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to mainstream.”

Despite MediaTek having its roots in the smartphone sector, teaming up with Nvidia ADAS solutions will strengthen MediaTek’s flagship mobile 5G chipset brand, MediaTek Dimensity Auto.

“Nvidia is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles,” says Rick Tsai, Vice Chairman and CEO of MediaTek.
