The new 55,000 sq m logistics centre replaces the company’s existing facility in the Kaita district of Hiroshima Port, giving the automaker better access to a new international container terminal in Dejima built by the Japanese central government and Hiroshima Prefecture authorities. The terminal is intended to strengthen the port’s capabilities, including its capacity to accommodate larger vessels.
The new Mazda KD Centre will serve as a logistics hub supplying unassembled (knock-down) parts for use in vehicle production overseas to all Mazda production sites outside Japan. Its operations will include receiving, storing, and packing parts, as well as loading them into ocean freight containers.
The new facility will benefit from its greater proximity to Hiroshima’s new container terminal, helping to improve efficiency and reliability. The centre was also designed to improve logistics efficiency with automated processes for storage, retrieval and palletising, while enhancing safety and working conditions. It also has improved access for delivery trucks.
