Proton Holdings Bhd was delisted from the Malaysian Stock Exchange following the successful acquisition of 90% of the equity by new owner DRB-Hicom Bhd.

Shares of Malaysia’s first national automaker, which now trails second national car company Perodua in the local car market, were first listed on the local stock exchange in 2004.

DRB-Hicom is now free to make important decisions regarding the future of Proton without having to seek formal shareholder approval in advance. The company is currently carrying out a strategic review of Proton and its loss-making Lotus Group subsidiary.
