Magna has begun production of its Gen5 front camera module system designed for an unnamed European automaker.
Key features of the forward facing camera system include a 120 degree horizontal and 48 degree vertical field of view. This wide angle perspective enables the detection of obstacles at distances of 160 metres ahead of the vehicle as well as the recognition of side objects like traffic lights and emergency vehicles.
The camera system offers eight megapixels of resolution, a 36 frames per second frame rate, and full colour image capability.
The microcontroller in the Gen5 camera is designed for flexibility with capacity for sensor fusion with up to five radars.
