Johnson Controls has laid the foundation stone for a new plant in Macedonia to produce printed circuit boards from the end of 2007.

The plant, located in a special economic zone, is part of Johnson Controls’ strategy to locate in the high growth markets of eastern Europe. The Macedonian plant will mainly supply factories in Slovakia.

Johnson Controls is investing around $20m in the plant that will employ 150 people from 2008. The total area of the plant will be around 6,000 square metres.

The new facility is 120 miles (200km) from the company’s development centre in Sofia, Bulgaria.
