Kia Motors Corporation sales worldwide in August 2018 of passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles dipped 0.2% year on year to 223,648 units.
Overseas sales declined 2% compared to the same month of 2017 to 179,448 units.
Kia said strong sales of RVs continued despite the sales decline. Sales of the Sportage – the brand's most popular model in Europe – rose over 16% to 37,254 units for a fifth straight month of double digit sales growth.
Overall sales at home in South in Korea reached 44,200 units, up 7.7% year on year. The K900 luxury sedan continued to have a strong month, passing 1,000 units for the fifth consecutive month.
The Sportage was also Kia's best-selling model worldwide with 41,040 units sold. The Sorento mid-size SUV was next with 25,261 units sold followed by the Rio subcompact sedan with 23,746 units sold.
"Kia Motors expects to maintain its sales momentum in the remainder of the second half with launch of new products such as the all new Forte [sedan] which started sales in various regions last month," the Hyundai Motor group affiliate said in a statement.
